A week in Miami

A week in Miami
"By the end, I was sad to say goodbye, which is probably the nicest problem a trip can leave you with."

Almost two months before Miami, I received an invitation from an lovely man. And one thing about me: give me some notice and I’m happy. I love having something in my calendar to look forward to, planning life around it, getting everything sorted beforehand.

He had taken care of the trip beautifully, we’d already been texting for a while and had a call before I left, so by the time Miami came around, he didn’t feel like a stranger I was about to meet. There was already an ease between us and thankfully, that feeling was exactly the same in person.

The hotel was gorgeous. He had arranged a beautiful suite as well as a separate room for me, which I really appreciated. Having my own space without even needing to ask for it said quite a lot about the kind of person I was travelling with. Thoughtful details will always impress me more than grand gestures.

From the moment we met, we clicked. We ate very well, explored Miami, went out, saw plenty, and somehow also became exceptionally talented at falling asleep together. Apparently taking a break from normal life is exhausting.

And maybe that was my favourite part of the whole trip. There was no feeling that every hour needed to be filled just because we were in Miami. Some days were exciting, others were wonderfully slow. We could go out for a beautiful dinner and just as happily disappear back to the hotel and do absolutely nothing for a while.

For one week, normal life felt very far away.

By the end, I was sad to say goodbye, which is probably the nicest problem a trip can leave you with.
